Crocus

Crocus PhotoThe crocus is hardy and known for its ability to naturalize. Crocus flowers can be seen pushing their way through the snow becoming the first real sign of spring. They like well-drained soil and should be planted only 2 or 3 inches deep, with the point facing up.

Though referred to as a bulb, they are really a "corm". Crocuses are most effective when planted in bunches - along the edge of a flower bed, in the rock garden, at the foot of trees.
